Background: We exist to maximize student potential and support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create School Innovation and Improvement Plans with measurable outcomes, strategies, and actions in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness, highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas. These strategies are shown below.
Reading Outcome and Strategies
Measurable Outcomes:
● By June 2025, our multilingual learners will increase their performance on the Reading SOL by 5% points, increasing their unadjusted pass rate from 50% to 55% as measured by the Reading SOL (all grade); specifically 44 to 49% for grade 3.

Strategy 1: ● Leverage use of daily, explicit language comprehension lessons from the new core curriculum for building knowledge and vocabulary. |
Strategy 2: ● Improve integrity of implementation of new core curriculum, English Language Development program, and/or intervention programs by using FCPS-adopted resources with fidelity. |
Strategy 3: ● Increase opportunities for English Language Development through use of embedded strategies during whole group instruction and intentional small group instruction focused on specific student needs. |
Mathematics Outcome and Strategies

Science Outcome and Strategies
Measurable Outcomes: ● By June 2025, 71% of students will earn a passing score on the Science SOL test prior to retakes as measured by the current year pass rate (24-25).

Strategy 1: ● Increase opportunities to develop science content vocabulary through inquiry-based learning, such as during the Explore of the 5E learning model, followed by explicit instruction during the Explain. |
Strategy 2: ● Expand the type and frequency of formative assessments to evaluate progress throughout units and lessons, such as exit tickets, four corners, whiteboards, stoplight reflection. |
Chronic Absenteeism Outcome and Strategies
Measurable Outcome: ● By June 2025, our school will reduce its chronic absenteeism rate 5 percentage points from 12% in June 2024 to 7% in June 2025, or maintain our Tier 1 status. |
Strategy 1: ● Teachers will promote student engagement and create a welcoming classroom environment by modeling social and emotional competencies in their interactions with students. |
Strategy 2: ● Teachers will use a variety of culturally-responsive practices and communication methods to provide supportive outreach to students and families when student attendance concerns arise. |
Strategy 3: ● All staff are able to recognize warning signs that a student may be experiencing a mental health and/or substance use challenge, and utilize timely referral processes connecting students with data-driven, evidence based interventions. |
